The Grofovska Trail is a themed hiking route that takes visitors through the former estates of the Thurn-Valsassina noble family. On the slopes of Pogorevce, in Žerjav and Jazbina, numerous farms were already established in the 17th century. Some of them are now abandoned, yet they still bear witness to the rich history of these places.
The trail passes five homesteads in the surroundings of Žerjav, including the farms Bosjakovo, Borovčnik, Kristavčnik, Korizl, and Mrdavsovo, as well as the Dukles hunting lodge.
The hunting lodge, built by Count Johann Duglas von Thurn-Valsassina, once played an important role in local hunting traditions. From here, the count and his hunting companions would set out into the vast surrounding forests, rich in wildlife.
Today, hikers can enjoy unspoiled nature along the trail, admire rich alpine flora such as heather, auriculas, and edelweiss, and may even encounter wildlife including chamois, deer, and even lynx.
The Grofovska Trail offers a unique experience where cultural heritage, historical traces, and natural beauty come together into one unforgettable journey.
