Pitman's trail

TRAIL LENGTH: 13 km
The Pitman's Trail begins in Črna na Koroškem with the open-air Mining Collection, Črna Ethnological Collection and the Olympic Athletes in Črna na Koroškem exhibition; the church of St Oswald, Plečnik monument and the famous bear are also nearby. You can test yourself on the climbing route over the rock next to the bear and see Črna from a higher perspective. The Pitman's Trail continues in the direction of Mežica, towards Rudarjevo village, where you turn left after about a kilometre towards Pikovo. After some 250 m, turn right uphill and continue to the abandoned mine buildings and the entrance to the Igrčevo shaft. The trail will then lead you past the houses on the right and you will follow the signs past the Ravbar, Špan, and Gutovnik farms to arrive at the hut on Pikovo and the church of St Helena. The Pitman's Trail continues downhill to the right; after about a kilometre, turn right at the fork and after another 100 m turn left. You will arrive at the hayrack in Mitnek which is a good spot for a short break and some refreshments. After the short stop, continue towards the hamlet of Helena where you turn right after about a kilometre on the main road; there you will see a bronze statue of a crouching fighter, the miner-Partisan, with a miner’s lamp in his right hand and a rifle in the left, as well as the entrance to Helena’s shaft. Continuing on the trail, you will reach the Mining Collection in Helena and the bowling alley. After the visit, continue to Perkmandeljc, a small mountain gnome living in mining shafts. From Perkmandeljc the trail leads towards Koprivna, where you will reach the TIC Topla info point – Karavanks Geopark and the Beekeeping Collection where the trail ends.
