2393 Črna na Koroškem
The Olimpline Via Ferrata starts practically in the centre of Črna na Koroškem, making it one of the most accessible yet authentic mountain-style via ferratas in Slovenia. Unlike many shorter sport climbing routes, this ferrata offers a true alpine experience, with impressive exposure, significant length, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
The approach to the ferrata takes approximately 20 minutes on foot.
Visitors can park anywhere in the centre of Črna na Koroškem and follow the road towards Koprivna. After crossing the bridge, a signpost directs hikers from the road onto a forest trail leading to the start of the ferrata.
Including sections of hiking between climbing segments, the average climber will need approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete the route.
The main route is graded C, making it suitable for climbers with basic via ferrata experience and an average level of fitness. It is also appropriate for families with experienced and confident teenagers.
Along the route, several optional variants provide additional challenges:
Grade D and E sections for more experienced climbers
One Grade F challenge, designed for highly skilled and well-prepared via ferrata enthusiasts
This Grade F section is currently considered one of the most difficult via ferrata challenges in Slovenia.
Before the final rock section, visitors can also take a short detour to explore Ninot's Cave, a former mining tunnel, which adds approximately 10 minutes to the trip.
Total route length: approximately 1,700 metres
Elevation gain: approximately 550 metres
Main route difficulty: Grade C
Optional variants: Grades D, E, and F
Estimated duration: 3–4 hours
Well-marked route with clearly indicated difficulty variants
The route is clearly marked throughout and presents no significant navigation difficulties. However, there are no water sources along the ferrata, so climbers should bring sufficient drinking water.
Due to its difficulty and exposure, proper via ferrata equipment is mandatory. Climbers should not attempt the route without the required safety gear and appropriate experience.
Snow usually melts quickly, allowing climbing conditions during most months of the year.
The ferrata ends near the upper station of the Olimpline zipline. From there, visitors have two options:
Descend by Olimpline Zipline (advance booking required through the Tourist Information Centre Črna na Koroškem)
Hike back to the valley, which takes approximately 45 minutes
The Olimpline Via Ferrata is not a sports facility. It is classified as a very demanding protected mountain route, and all visitors enter entirely at their own risk.
The ferrata was designed and built by Karbida, a company based in Gornji Grad.
