Mučevo is a wild and scenic gorge that is home to the recently established Mučevo Via Ferrata. The route offers two levels of difficulty, making it suitable for both less experienced and more advanced climbers:
The starting point is located near the road between Mežica and Črna na Koroškem. From the parking area on the right-hand side of the road, continue approximately 200 metres towards Mežica until you reach the signpost for the via ferrata. Follow the forest path into the gorge until you arrive at a small wooden bridge, where the easier and more difficult routes diverge.
Along the route, climbers can follow:
The easier route begins by crossing the wooden bridge and approaching the base of the cliff. The climb follows a scenic ridge above the gorge, offering beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.
The route leads to a suspension bridge where both ferrata routes merge. The climb officially ends after crossing this suspension bridge.
From the wooden bridge, continue approximately 80 metres further up the gorge to reach the start of the challenging route.
The first 10–12 metres are particularly demanding before the route becomes slightly easier. In wet or damp conditions, the risk of slipping is significantly increased, making appropriate footwear essential.
After reaching the first suspension bridge, climbers continue up steep and challenging rock slabs. An alternative bypass is available for this section. The route then continues over varied terrain along the edge of the cliff towards the final suspension bridge.
The most difficult sections can be bypassed, which is why the overall difficulty rating of the route is graded as D.
For both routes, the lower sections that pass through the damp parts of the gorge can be considerably more demanding than expected. For safety reasons, climbing is strongly recommended only in dry and stable weather conditions.
